Vicki Freimann Named Managing Partner
CBM has named attorney Vicki Freimann Managing Partner of the firm, effective July 1. Freimann is currently Managing Partner of the firm’s Los Angeles office and head of its Commercial Litigation Practice Group. She assumes the firmwide reins from David M. Rice, who has held the post since 2007.
“Vicki is the second, very capable woman to serve as our Managing Partner, and she was recruited as a future leader by Angela Bradstreet, our first woman in that role, who served multiple terms prior to being tapped by Gov. Schwarzenegger's administration as the California Commissioner of Labor,” said Rice, Carroll Burdick’s outgoing Managing Partner. “We are fortunate to have done such a solid job of planning for our future, including a well-stocked leadership pipeline; thriving international practice and lean approach to the business of law. Vicki takes over a healthy firm that is poised for continued growth despite these tough times.” » read more
“I am honored and humbled to be chosen as Carroll, Burdick & McDonough’s next Managing Partner after only four years at the firm,” said Freimann. “My job as Managing Partner over the next few years will primarily be strategic. We have a sound fiscal base and a conservative, yet forward-thinking strategic plan. As a result, where other firms have been laying off attorneys, we have been hiring; where other firms have been closing offices, we are opening them because of client demand; where other firms talk succession, we are actively transitioning from our accomplished senior partners to our gifted next generation of leaders.”
Freimann added, “I am thrilled and challenged to be part of this exciting era at Carroll, Burdick & McDonough. I thank David Rice for his stalwart leadership over the past two years, and I also thank Angela Bradstreet for her support, guidance, stellar example and advice. It is lovely, for once, not to be the ‘first woman.’ There is certainly no glass ceiling at Carroll Burdick.”
Freimann, who joined the firm in 2005, in addition to her management responsibilities, is an experienced litigator and workout specialist for major corporations, banks, financial institutions, and a diverse array of businesses. She handles both plaintiff and defense cases, being experienced in secured transactions, securities violations, unfair trade practices, real estate disputes, fraud claims, contract disputes, business torts, employment litigation, bad faith insurance claims and related matters. Freimann has successfully prosecuted and defended multi-million dollar cases, including defense of a $6 million bad faith and fraud case for a major financial institution that ended in a 12-0 jury verdict, brought a $10 million complex commercial case involving significant punitive damage exposure to a successful conclusion for a Fortune 500 company, and resolved a $50 million unfair trade practices case for a major corporate client who described the result as “fantastic.”
Carroll, Burdick & McDonough LLP, which has been in business for more than 60 years, has approximately 75 attorneys and offices in San Francisco, Walnut Creek, Los Angeles and Sacramento with affiliated offices in Stuttgart, Germany and Hong Kong, China. The firm represents local, national and international clients in a diverse litigation and business practice focused on appellate litigation; complex insurance matters; products liability litigation; corporate, commercial and real estate transactions; real estate and construction litigation; complex commercial, business and tort litigation; toxic tort defense; labor and employment litigation and counseling; and intellectual property licensing and development.
