  • Mr. Rice has handled civil appeals and writ petitions in all California appellate courts and in numerous other appellate courts throughout the United States. He is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court and most of the federal Circuit Courts of Appeals, and he has participated in matters before appellate courts of many states.

Coordinates Appellate Litigation Nationwide

  • Mr. Rice coordinates appellate litigation for a major foreign motor vehicle manufacturer throughout the U.S.

Trial Court Strategy and Briefing

  • In addition to handling matters in the appellate courts, Mr. Rice is also regularly involved in trial strategy and major trial court briefing. His role is to assist in obtaining advantageous rulings in the trial court and to position the case for possible appeal however the trial court proceedings are ultimately resolved.

Strategic Analysis and Coverage Opinions

  • In addition to handling matters in litigation, Mr. Rice also assists clients in evaluating issues that might some day require litigation. His goal is often to determine how to avoid litigation. This role includes analyzing insurance coverage exposure for the firm’s major insurance company clients.

Broad Range of Subject Matter

  • Although much of Mr. Rice's substantive experience is in the products liability and insurance coverage areas, he has also been involved in a broad range of other cases, including mass tort, insurance bad faith, class action and unfair competition claims, commercial contract disputes, business torts, personal injury, premises liability, employment law, managed health care matters, constitutional law, administrative law, ethics and complex federal and state court jurisdictional and procedural issues.
