Mr. Varney specializes in all aspects of the defense of manufacturers and distributors of various products in wrongful death, catastrophic injury and major property loss matters in courts throughout the country.
Mr. Varney has extensive experience in the defense of claims involving automobiles and their component parts and has also successfully defended product liability claims involving boats, boating equipment, trailers, forklifts, consumer goods, recreational products and sporting goods.

Class Action Litigation
Mr. Varney also represents defendants in statewide and nationwide class actions and other aggregate and representative litigation in state and federal courts.
Defense of Consumer Protection Claims
Mr. Varney has extensive experience with a number of consumer protection statutes. He routinely provides advice and counsel on consumer issues and has successfully defended manufacturers, sellers and lenders in numerous matters involving the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, California’s Unfair Competition Laws, the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, the Rees-Levering Motor Vehicle Sales and Finance Act, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and other state and federal consumer statutes.
National and Regional Defense Coordination
Mr. Varney frequently represents clients in nationally and regionally coordinated proceedings involving the engagement and management of local counsel and experts and the development of strategies for the defense of pattern and serial litigation.
